Two big dials, eight supporting gauges, all at arm's length
Engine speed and road speed carry the screen. Coolant, load, intake air, manifold pressure, airflow, throttle, fuel and battery voltage sit underneath, each labelled with the PID it came from so you can check the app's work. The header always shows which car, which adapter, which protocol, and how fast it is polling.

What the code means, and where to look first
P0171 is not "System too lean, bank 1" to most people. Manifold explains the usual causes — vacuum leak, dirty airflow sensor, weak fuel pump — points you at the reading that tells them apart, and shows the freeze frame. It closes with the honest line: a guide to where to look, not a diagnosis.

Dims itself after dark
Day, night, or automatic between 7pm and 7am. It goes by the clock rather than asking for your location, because dimming a screen is not worth handing over where you are.

Three alerts, and nothing else
The chime fires on overheating above 110 °C, a charging system below 12 V or above 15 V, and the check engine light coming on. That is the whole list, on purpose — most readings only mean something alongside what the engine is doing at the time, and an app that chimed during ordinary driving would just teach you to ignore it.

Questions
Before you download
Do I need to buy an adapter from you?
No. Manifold works with standard ELM327-compatible Bluetooth adapters, which start around $20, and with the faster OBDLink range if you want higher refresh rates. We don't sell hardware, so we have no reason to push you toward a particular one.
Is the free version limited or a trial?
It's the real app, permanently. Live data, fault codes with explanations, freeze frame, readiness monitors, the searchable manual and night mode are all free, for as many cars as you like. Plus adds logging, trends and the maintenance record — the things that have to keep data over time.
Why is Plus priced per car instead of per account?
Because the value is per car. One vehicle's logs, service history and reminders is what most people want, and a single flat rate would mean one-car owners subsidising anyone running five. If you have several, each is $1.99 a month and each is billed separately, so you can stop tracking a car the day you sell it.
Can Manifold clear my check engine light?
Yes, with the ignition on and the engine off. Worth saying plainly: clearing a code doesn't fix anything. It erases the record, resets every readiness monitor, and the car will fail an inspection until the drive cycles complete again — which the app tells you before you do it. Manifold shows the freeze frame and the monitors first so you can decide whether clearing is actually the right move.
Can it read ABS, airbag or transmission codes?
Manifold reads the full OBD-II standard, which covers the engine and emissions systems on every compliant car. Codes from other modules are manufacturer-specific and are being added make by make. Check the in-app notes for your vehicle before relying on it for non-engine diagnostics.
Where does my data go?
Your vehicle data, logs and service history are stored on your device. Plus adds optional backup and sync so you don't lose the history when you change devices. We don't sell driving data, and there is no advertising in the app. Manifold doesn't ask for your location either — even the night-mode switch goes by the clock rather than looking up sunset.
Is it safe to use while driving?
Manifold is designed to be read at a glance from a mount, the way an instrument cluster is — large figures, status never signalled by colour alone, nothing that needs tapping while moving. Set up your screens before you drive, not on the road. And it is a diagnostic tool: it tells you what the car reports, not whether the car is safe to drive.
